Frequently asked questions
Getting started
Do I need a referral?
No. You do not need a GP or specialist referral. You can contact us directly to discuss your concern and book an appointment.
I’m not sure which appointment to book.
That’s fine. Get in touch and we will advise you before you book.
Can I book follow-up appointments in advance?
Yes. Some people prefer to book ahead for continuity. This can be arranged during or after your appointment.
Your appointment
What happens after my appointment?
You will receive a clear written summary covering:
• Explanation of your problem
• Agreed management plan
• Exercises or advice provided
• What to expect next
This helps you feel clear and confident after leaving the clinic.
How long is each appointment?
Appointment lengths vary by service. Full details are available on our Services and pricing pages.
Will treatment be painful?
Treatment should not be unnecessarily painful. Some discomfort can occur during assessment or rehabilitation, but this is always discussed and guided carefully.
How many sessions will I need?
This depends on your condition, goals, and response to treatment. Some people need one or two sessions, others benefit from longer support. We review this together as we go.
Can I bring someone with me to my appointment?
Yes. You are welcome to bring a partner, friend, or family member if that helps you feel more comfortable.
What if I’m nervous or unsure about physiotherapy?
That’s completely normal. We will take time to listen, explain findings clearly, and work at a pace that feels right for you. You are always in control of what happens during your appointment.
Is everything I discuss confidential?
Yes. All consultations and records are confidential and handled in line with professional and data protection standards.
Do you treat people with long-standing or recurring problems?
Yes. Many people we see have ongoing or recurrent symptoms. Our focus is on understanding contributing factors and helping you manage symptoms effectively over the longer term.
What if I am running late?
If you think you may be late, please contact us as soon as possible. We will always do our best to accommodate you, but appointment time may be reduced.
Do you offer gait analysis or running assessments as a standalone service?
Yes. We offer detailed running gait analysis, which can be booked on its own or as part of a broader assessment. If you have a current injury or pain, an initial appointment is required first.
If you are interested in gait analysis as a standalone service, please contact us to discuss suitability, including options for assessment during training or track sessions.
Exercise, training, and scans
Can I keep training or exercising?
Often, yes. Many people can stay active with appropriate modifications. If rest is needed, we will explain why and for how long.
Do I need an X-ray or MRI first?
No. Imaging is not routinely required before assessment. If it would be helpful, we will discuss this with you.
Will I be given exercises to do at home?
Yes. Where appropriate, you will be given tailored exercises and advice to support your recovery between appointments.
How soon should I expect to notice improvement?
This varies depending on your condition, how long symptoms have been present, and how your body responds. We will discuss realistic timescales with you and review progress regularly.
Who we see
Do you only treat runners?
No. While we specialise in running-related injuries, you do not need to be a runner to see us.
We treat a wide range of musculoskeletal problems, including back, neck, shoulder, arm, hip, knee, foot, and ankle conditions, and work with active adults across many sports and activities.
Do you see children or teenagers?
We are not paediatric physiotherapists. However, we do see older teenagers with sports-related musculoskeletal problems where appropriate. If unsure, please contact us before booking.
What to wear
What should I wear to my appointment?
Wear something comfortable that allows us to assess the area properly.
For lower-limb or running-related problems:
• Running shoes
• Shorts or trousers that roll above the knee
For shoulder or upper-limb problems:
• Vest or strappy top
For gait analysis:
• Fitted top
• Running tights or Lycra-style shorts
If unsure, wear comfortable clothing and we can advise on the day.
