Your first appointment allows time for a comprehensive assessment of your injury or concern.
We'll take time to understand not only your symptoms, but also how they're affecting your everyday life, work, hobbies and physical activity before completing a detailed physical examination.
If you're attending with a running related injury, we'll also complete a thorough review of your running history, current training load and future goals to help us understand the demands you're placing on your body.

Initial Physiotherapy Assessment:
Your first appointment allows time for a comprehensive assessment of your injury or concern.
We'll take time to understand not only your symptoms, but also how they're affecting your everyday life, work, hobbies and physical activity before completing a detailed physical examination.
If you're attending with a running related injury, we'll also complete a thorough review of your running history, current training load and future goals to help us understand the demands you're placing on your body.
During your assessment we'll discuss:
✔ Your current symptoms and how they affect you
✔ How and when your symptoms developed
✔ Previous injuries and relevant medical history
✔ Your work, hobbies, sport and activity levels
✔ Any investigations or treatment you've already had
✔ Your goals and what you'd like to achieve
We'll assess:
Every assessment is tailored to the individual, but may include:
✔ Joint movement
✔ Muscle strength
✔ Flexibility where appropriate
✔ Balance and control
✔ Functional movement
✔ Special tests to help understand the source of your symptoms
Throughout the appointment we'll explain what we're assessing, why it's relevant and what our findings mean for you.
Some conditions need more than one appointment:
Every person and every condition is different.
Some problems can be fully assessed within a single appointment, while others are more complex and require additional discussion, further assessment or time before reaching a confident diagnosis and management plan.
Our priority is never to rush to conclusions. Instead, we aim to provide the most accurate assessment possible and explain the reasoning behind our recommendations.
What will you receive?
Following your appointment you'll receive a detailed written summary in clear, straightforward language.
This will include:
✔ Our assessment findings
✔ What we believe is contributing to your symptoms
✔ Reassurance about anything that appears normal or isn't a cause for concern
✔ A personalised management plan
✔ Exercises and advice discussed during your appointment
✔ What you can reasonably expect moving forward
✔ Guidance on any appropriate next steps, including further treatment, investigations or onward referral where required
The aim is to ensure you leave the clinic feeling informed, reassured and confident about your recovery.
Occasionally, some conditions are more complex and require further assessment before we can confidently answer every question or finalise a management plan. In these situations, your written summary will reflect the information available at that stage, together with the next steps in the assessment process. We'll always explain why further assessment is recommended and ensure you understand the plan moving forward.
New problem? New assessment.
Every injury has its own history, examination findings and management plan.
If you've developed a new injury or a different condition, we'll usually recommend booking a new Initial Physiotherapy Assessment rather than a Follow-up Appointment.
This gives us enough time to fully understand the new problem and provide the most appropriate advice and treatment from the outset.
If you're unsure whether your symptoms represent a new problem or a continuation of an existing one, simply get in touch and we'll be happy to advise.
Follow-up Physiotherapy Appointment
Follow-up appointments build on your initial assessment and are designed to support your recovery as your symptoms, goals and activity levels change.
Recovery rarely follows a perfectly straight line. Some people improve quickly, while others require rehabilitation to be progressed gradually over several weeks or months. Follow-up appointments allow us to monitor your progress, answer new questions and adapt your management plan as your recovery develops.
Rather than repeating the initial assessment, these appointments build on everything we've already learnt about you and focus on helping you move confidently towards your goals.
During your follow-up appointment we may:
✔ Review how your symptoms have changed
✔ Discuss your progress since your previous appointment
✔ Review your response to treatment and exercises
✔ Progress or modify your rehabilitation programme
✔ Review exercise technique
✔ Provide hands-on treatment where appropriate
✔ Discuss returning to work, sport or running
✔ Review investigations or discuss onward referral where required
Every follow-up appointment is tailored to your recovery, current symptoms and goals.
What will you receive?
Following your appointment you'll receive an updated written summary including:
✔ Your progress since your previous appointment
✔ Any updated assessment findings
✔ Changes to your rehabilitation programme
✔ Updated exercises where appropriate
✔ Advice discussed during your appointment
✔ Agreed goals and next steps
This helps you keep track of your recovery and ensures you leave each appointment with a clear understanding of your progress and confidence in the plan moving forward.
What makes our approach different?
We believe understanding your condition is just as important as treating it. That's why every appointment includes time to explain our findings in straightforward language, answer your questions and provide a written summary to take away. Our goal is for you to leave feeling confident in both your diagnosis and the plan ahead not wondering what was said once you get home.
