Running MOT

Running Assessment in Derby

Understand your running, identify areas for improvement, and support your training before injury develops.

Understand your running before injury develops

Whether you're training for your first 5K, chasing a marathon personal best or simply enjoy running to stay active, the Running MOT is designed to help you better understand how your body is coping with the demands of running.

Many runners simply want reassurance that they're training well and focusing on the right things. Others are looking to identify areas that could support their running further. The Running MOT provides an opportunity to step back, assess where you are now, and receive honest, personalised feedback on both the things you're doing well and any areas that may benefit from attention.

Unlike an injury appointment, the Running MOT is intended for runners who are currently pain free. It combines a detailed discussion about your running with a running-specific physical assessment to identify factors that may influence injury risk, running efficiency and performance.

Why we created the Running MOT

Most runners only seek professional advice once an injury has already disrupted their training.

While that is often the right time to seek help, many runners also want something different. They want reassurance that they're training sensibly, confidence that they're focusing on the right things, and an opportunity to better understand how their body is coping with the demands of running.

We created the Running MOT to provide exactly that.

Rather than trying to find faults or convince you something needs fixing, the appointment is designed to give you an honest picture of where you are now. That means recognising the things you're already doing well, while also identifying any areas that may further support your running.

The aim isn't to predict injuries or promise they can be prevented. Instead, it's about helping you better understand your running, make informed decisions about your training and continue enjoying the sport with confidence.

Is the Running MOT right for you?

The Running MOT is suitable if you:

✔ You're currently running without pain or injury

✔ You're training for a race or event

✔ You'd like to reduce your injury risk

✔ You're returning to running after a previous injury and are now symptom free

✔ You want to improve running efficiency or performance

✔ You're simply interested in understanding your body better

This appointment is not suitable if:

✘ You're currently experiencing pain while running

✘ You have an injury that requires diagnosis or treatment

If you're currently injured, we recommend booking an Initial Physiotherapy Assessment, where we can diagnose your problem and develop an appropriate treatment plan.

What happens during your appointment?

Every Running MOT is tailored to the individual, but typically includes:

We'll discuss:

✔ Your running background

✔ Current training volume and recent training load

✔ Previous injuries

✔ Running goals and future events

✔ Any concerns or recurring niggles

What's already working well for you and what has helped you stay running successfully

We'll assess:

✔ Running-specific strength

✔ Balance and single-leg control

✔ Functional movement

✔ Capacity where appropriate

✔ Factors that may influence running efficiency

✔ Factors that may increase injury risk

Throughout the appointment we'll explain what we're assessing, why it's relevant and how the findings relate to your own running.

What will you receive?

Following your appointment you'll receive a personalised written summary including:

✔ Key assessment findings

✔ Reassurance about the strengths and positive habits you've already developed

✔ Your strengths as a runner

✔ Areas for improvement

✔ Practical recommendations

✔ Individual advice discussed during the appointment

✔ Exercises where appropriate

The aim isn't simply to look for problems. Many runners are already doing a great deal well, and recognising those strengths is just as important as identifying areas that could be improved. Where we feel you're on the right track, we'll tell you. Where there are opportunities to support your running further, we'll explain why and provide practical recommendations based on your individual assessment.

Enhance your Running MOT with Running Gait Analysis

For the most comprehensive assessment, Running Gait Analysis can be added to your Running MOT at a discounted price when booked together.

The Running MOT assesses how your body performs away from the treadmill, including strength, control and movement capacity.

Running Gait Analysis assesses how you actually move while running using Ochy AI motion analysis technology.

Together they provide a more complete understanding of the factors that may influence running efficiency, training capacity and injury risk.

If you'd like to discuss whether combining both assessments would be beneficial, we're happy to advise.

Not sure if Running MOT is right for you?

If you're unsure whether a Running MOT or an Initial Physiotherapy Assessment would be most appropriate, please get in touch.

We'll discuss your current situation, answer any questions you have and recommend the appointment we genuinely believe will be most beneficial. If we don't think a Running MOT is the right option for you, we'll tell you.

Ready to understand your running?

Whether you're preparing for your next race, returning to running after time away, or simply want reassurance that you're on the right track, we'd be delighted to help.
